We're staying 3 nights in Denver, 1 night in Black Hawk. We are a couple in our late twenties, no kids. What should we do while in Colorado?

We were thinking Garden of the Gods one day. Any other places we should see while in Colorado that's within an hour's drive of Denver?

Thanks!

Garden of the Gods is in Colorado Springs. While you're there, you can go up to Manitou and hop on the cog up to Pike's Peak.

US Mint.

State Capitol.

16th Street Mall.

Coors Brewery.

Ski.

and on and on.

Is it feesible to drive to Colorado Springs from Denver and back to Denver in the same day? It looks like maybe a 90 minute drive. Will the weather make that a difficult drive? Should we avoid driving back at night?

Is there anything East of Denver worth checking out? We arrive early in the morning and it looks like Denver's airport is East. Maybe there's something out that way worth seeing before we head into downtown Denver?

Yes, every time I've been to Colorado Springs, I've driven back the same day.

Weather can make it a difficult drive, but there has to be weather occurring for that to happen. There's no need to avoid driving back at night.

Um, no.

If you like small towns and barren plains, then you should check it out. But otherwise, there's not much to "see" out there.

Would Winter Park also make a nice day trip from Denver? Or should we look at staying the night in Winter Park. We aren't interested in skiing, but maybe snow tubing or sleding and exploring the town.

You should definitely check out the "Ski Train" if you want to go to Winter Park. It is an incredible train ride from downtown Denver to Winter Park...leaves early morning and comes back in the late afternoon. You don't have to be a skier to go. If you're staying 3 nights in Denver, you should stay downtown. Everything is fairly close.

Dillon Reservoir and the towns of Dillon and Frisco, west on I-70, are very scenic and fun to explore. They remind me a little of Switzerland. If you stay overnight the Alpine Inn is a clean and affordable place to stay. It is right off the freeway exit to Frisco.

Well you definitely should drive out to the mountains. No point in visiting CO unless you see the mountains. So you can drive to Winter Park or Dillon/Breckenridge or out to Highway 119 and take it north to Nederland and see spectacular scenery.

Garden of the Gods is good too.

Is Breckenridge an easy day trip from Denver, or should we look into staying the night there?
