I love it here
My family has been born and raised here, My hubby is 4th generation from Salida,CO 30 miles east of BV, I graduated from Buena Vista HS and so have our children. The winters are mild here (not much snow as you would think). If we want to see the "big City" we drive for about 2 hours and hit Denver or Colorado Springs or Pueblo. It is not that big of a deal. I work at Wmart in Salida and my hubby works for the state. We have some cows,chickens and goats and a horse. I could not imagine living any where else but here. We do stay busy year around, there are more things to do than sitting and watching TV. Snowmobiling is a lot of fun, fishing and hunting too.

We do a yearly retreat and sometimes go to this place in BV. I know I posted this in another thread. Maybe sometime it will get merged, but for now, I'd like to post a couple photos of this place in BV here;
Trail West is the name of the place:
Check out that hot tub and new outdoor pool!

Puke-y vista
Lived there for two years. Can you say WIND? My family hated it and moved back to Grand Junction. Nothing redeeming about it at all. nothing.

If you want to get more insight as to what some locals are thinking, there is a website called ChannelBV.net. It also has a forums page.

I have lived here over 20 years and still enjoy it in spite of the wind. There has been some growth over the last few years but it is still small town.

Was in BV just before Thanksgiving. Only stopped for lunch, but felt that I was in a "real" place and the people at the diner were nice as could be, folks you'd like to have as friends and neighbors. The scenery is great there and it's near some darned good fishing and hunting areas, not to mention a reasonable commute to the high-priced ski areas.
Here are sample pix I took in Nov: http://www.city-data.com/forum/6287727-post11.html

I go to Buena Vista quite a bit (as a tourist) and I love it. I don't find it as crowded or tourist crazy as many other spots in Colorado, such as Manitou Springs, Boulder, Evergreen, Aspen. I have never seen BV "crawling" with tourists in the summer months. It is pretty quiet and the low traffic level is great compared to the front range.
My favorite things about BV are: the antique shops, the mom and pop restaurants, the historical homes, and McPhelemy Park - very cute place to relax and unwind.
Maybe I will live in BV someday - the only downside in my view is lack of shopping and medical care.
I have friends from BV and they can't say enough good things about growing up there.
