I know Frontier is pretty popular here. I flew them for the first time last week, Denver to San Diego.

Problems:

1. Online check-in. Seats are assigned automatically. Can't choose from a map of availableseats, like other airlines. For all I know, I'm in the row that doesn't recline.

2. So, I tried calling Frontier to clarify the seat assignments. Tried 3 times, several hours apart, and hung up after being on hold for 20+ minutes. Good thing for speaker phones! I also like their first prompt: "Press 1 for English." Shouldn't that be the default?

3. Before leaving home, I checked flight status on their web site. It showed a 15 minute delay on the first leg (Boise to Denver), but never actually showed a takeoff time. Further, the Denver to SDgo leg was still "on time." We arrived at DEN, and it still showed the same info on the board. After that time had passed by about 30 minutes, they finally updated it showing an hour delay. That should have been updated on their flight status web site before we left home.

4. On the way up the jetway, there's a barrel with free ear buds. That surprised me, considering how airlines nickel and dime for everything these days. I got to my seat, looked around, and noted that there was no place to plug them in! This was a Midwest Embraer 190 with no media at the seats. Duh...

Perhaps it all hit the fan when Republic took over? Am I missing something?

I haven't flown them since the bankruptcy/buyout but I didn't have any problems. I'm pretty sure I picked my seat either when I booked on Expedia or when I checked in on the touchscreen computer at the airport. I've only flown them directly from SNA to DEN so I can't comment on delays but my flights were on-time. All the planes I flew were Airbuses with DirecTV at every seat. We were free to bring our own earbuds but had to swipe a credit card to enable the audio.

Yes, you can, but you pay for the privilege. Buy a classic ticket.

I love Frontier. It's affordable and flies non-stop to my favorite destinations. The staff is friendly and professional, planes are clean, and flights are usually on-time.

We fly Frontier exclusively within the US. I have never experienced any of the problems you've encountered. BUT I haven't flown them since Republic took over. My last flight was in October to Orlando. No problems no issues.
I am confused about #1 - choosing seats at check-in? Should you not already have a seat assignment at that point? Did you mean when you are booking your ticket? Because you can choose your seats online. I always have.
My reasons for flying Frontier: The Airbus jets are nice, comfortable, newer planes. I like having tv on board.
I liked the fact that when I called Frontier customer service I got someone in the US who spoke English. Their customer service was not off-shore or at least they were not before Republic. (I have not had to call them since they took over.)
The places I usually fly are serviced by United and Frontier. Frontier fares are more affordable. I also liked that they were our hometown airline and I would rather give them the business if had a choice. Maybe that will change now. I don't know.

One more reason: their frequent flier program. Less miles to earn a free ticket than others except maybe SW (not sure how theirs works). I have almost always been able to cash my miles in for tickets.

We bought economy tickets as we had no bags to check. Seats can only be reserved within 24h of the flight. As formercalifornian mentioned, you can pay more for the privilege of choosing your seat at time of booking.

Because it's the local airline, based right out of Denver. When you buy a ticket from them, you're helping keep a lot of good jobs in Denver, and not Dallas or Chicago or other cities. Not always, but often the #1 cheapest way to fly from Denver to a whole bunch of destinations around the country nonstop. Very good on-time performance record. If I would have flown Frontier instead of United, I would have actually made it home for Christmas instead of my flight getting delayed, then cancelled, then when the blizzard hit and it was too late, getting stuck at the OKC airport for two days straight, sleeping on the hard floor and eating Sonic burgers. Very modern aircraft, cute furry animals. Now if they would only start a Denver-Reno service.

That would be nice but tough to compete with Southwest in those Reno markets connecting beyond Denver and I doubt there's enough local traffic to split with United.

Because they offer loads of non-stop flights to the places I fly to most often for less money and they don't make me get in a mosh pit to board, like SW does. Also, they have yet to lose my bag, re-route me or delay me more than a few minutes. In fact, I can only remember one time that they did not get me there early.

I'm not sure what kind of plane you were on, because I've always had the earphone jack available. Also, I've always been able to choose a seat at the time of check-in. Maybe you chose Bizzaro Frontier by accident?
