My husband is currently interviewing for jobs in his company that would relocate him to Broomfield. We currently live in a small town in Iowa and both commute 25-35 miles into the city for work. We'd like to find a home in Colorado with a 1+ acre lot (but only around $225,000). I see Fort Lupton is about 26 miles from Broomfield. How would that commute be? How about in the winter? Any other location suggestions?

We just toured the area and some houses there last week. We were not impressed with Ft. Lupton or Dacono. They both seemed very poor with many areas that were run down. Brighton seemed like it had some areas that were nice and some areas that were run down. I think we are going to the Firestone/Frederick area, but did search through all these northern areas. Good luck with your search.

I would not suggest downtown Fort Lupton, but there are some nice farms outside of Fort Lupton. Where exactly would you be working in Broomfield? Way northeast? If so, you could probably walk there, lol. Down at Interlocken? That could be a pain to commute to, depending on how you got there.

I was just wondering if anyone that lives in Fort Lupton could tell me what it's like out there. I have visited a couple times, but have not been there since 1994. There wasn't much out that way.
So I was just curious to find out what it's really like from someone who lives there. Thanks! |

There still isn't "much" out that way. There is some new developments, but it's still a long commute to Denver for work.

Don't live there, drive all over the state. It's reached north of Brighton by route 85 or take I-76 to the Hudson exit and go west.
It's in southern Weld county, which had terrific growth, along with Larimer county, the last few years. That has dropped off steeply and is level. The area Ft. Lupton is in is still ranch and farmland but being pressured by water rights issues (controlled by state water board), and of course development as the I-76 corridor and south to Brighton is becoming new housing and new Adams county urban. However, housing is still quite a bit cheaper than denver boulder area. It's still got a small town atmosphere but everywhere has quite a bit more traffic due to the reliance on autos. |

Thanks. We're still about 5 years from moving there. By then our kids will be in H.S. so we'll need to be looking at that as well.

A lot changes in 5 years. Ask this question again in 4.75 years.

You're right about that! A lot can change in 5 years. I think we'll just try to visit every summer and keep an eye on things.

I live pretty close to Fort Lupton, I personally think it's a hole but it does have a downtown and some cute old houses. It's not close to anything and they have terrible weather, they are always getting hit with hail storms and wind storms. Try the Carbon Valley instead.
