Canon City is spending 400K to make a kayak park on the Arkansas. Anyone want to venture a guess how this will effect Salida and Chaffee county tourism? RP

Well, I hope it will bring more dollars here to Canon ...I'm sure it will take some tourism away from others..it is supposed to be the best. We shall see how it ends up. I think the little "pool" areas will be great for everyone not wanting to be swept away by the currents but, still want to be in the river.
The name is catchy too....WKRP ..
I guess someone always builds it bigger and better!! Well, better anyhow!
Guess it's Canon City's turn!! There are a TON of rafting companies here and, they will use it to take handicapped, elderly and children who wouldn't be able to raft on the harsher parts of the Arkansas.
It also would be nice to get a few more tourists who wish to spend the night, fill up our many empty hotel rooms!!
We need the tourism dollars because, unlike Salida that has Monarch Ski area in the winter, we don't get those $$.

I've been down there and it looks fantastic! Nice little wading pool too for the kiddos.

I just got back from taking a quick 2 day trip in Canon City to check it out more and see if I would like to relocate there. I'm not into rafting but I do like to kayak and I was wondering when I was there if there was a kayak place. I saw rafting signs all over but no kayak.

Anyway, this is a big plus CC has something like that now.
