Familyfriendly, Progressive Open Minded place to live in Colorado (Denver: home, neighborhoods)

Looking for great advise.... Moving from Texas to Colorado, but where? We can live anywhere that satisfies these needs:
1. Great Family Life, opportunites for children activities
2. Good Schools
3. Smaller, tight community, ability to walk places
4. Neighborhoods with community centers, open spaces, hiking trails, neighborhood events
5. Open minded progressive ~ New Age influence community

I'd love to live somewhere I can participate in group yoga in a beautiful open space in the morning, then send my kids to a good educational school, and after school we can walk to the local community center to play the seasons sport, and walking home pick up a few groceries. LoveBoulder, butmay be too expensive and not quite as "CHILD" friendly as other surrounding areas!

Boulder would fit the bill. Maybe Manitou Springs, but I wouldn't want to raise children there.

Castle Rock is essentially a bedroom community in an area that I would not suggest is a New Age hipster/progressive type place.

In reality, you're asking for two separate things. Open spaces, trails, etc and a small walkable community are kind of opposites. It sounds like you're trying to mix Highlands Ranch with Boulder or Stapleton. Maybe you can find somewhere along the Platte River or Cherry Creek in the Denver area? There are trails and parks up and down those, and plenty of those areas are urban enough and young enough to suit the other things you're looking for.

Sounds like you'd more likely find what you're looking for in Northern NM (Taos or Santa Fe) or Arizona (Sedona). They're a little more New Age oriented.

In general, Castle Rock is conservative. It is also not a walkable community.
