Pagosa is no where near Colorado Springs. Some folks confuse Poncha Springs with Pagosa but alas, it's not terribly close to Colorado Springs although it's a bit closer than Pagosa. To get to Pagosa from Colorado Springs you would drive down I-25 to Alamosa, then over Wolf Creek Pass. From South Fork on, it's a beautiful drive to Pagosa and Pagosa Springs itself sits in a pretty spot - scenically speaking. Some folks say Pagosa smells like sulfur (obviously from the springs.) It can depending upon wind direction on any given day.

Since distance is a relative measure, it up to you to decide wether it is far or near. EG: If you were taking a drive from Ft Collins to Tierra Del Fuego in South America, passing thru Pagosa Springs along the way, you'd probably consider the distance between Ft Collins and Pagosa to be pretty short.....comapred to the distance all the way down to Tierra Del Fuego. On the other hand, compared to the distance between Ft Collins and Boulder ( approx 55 miles ), the distance between Ft Collins and Pagosa ( approx 340 miles ) is more than 6 time greater.

Good point. Last time I was traveling to Tierra Del Fuego via Pagosa Springs it did seem like I whizzed past Pagosa Springs in no time.

So let's just leave it at this: according to Google maps, the distance between Fort Collins and Pagosa Springs (via I-25 to US-160) is approximately 387 miles, or 7 hours 37 minutes of driving time. We'll leave it up each person to determine on their own whether or not that qualifies as 'near'. I say No but many Tierra Del Fuegans may disagree.
