The problem is this thread is so broad, sure some cities are having water issues that did not properly plan for growth while other cities have so much water that they can quadruple in size and still have water left over even if no more is secured.

Perhaps I have more faith in peoples ability to understand a simple example, but I could be wrong about that. We all see exactly what we want to see.

Here's an interesting piece in the WSJ today, talks about how many gallons of water it takes to make ONE pint of beer.
- Yet Another 'Footprint' to Worry About: Water - WSJ.com

Excerpt(s):

- It takes roughly 20 gallons of water to make a pint of beer, as much as 132 gallons of water to make a 2-liter bottle of soda, and about 500 gallons, including water used to grow, dye and process the cotton, to make a pair of Levi's stonewashed jeans.

- Two-thirds of the world's population is projected to face water scarcity by 2025, according to the United Nations. In the U.S., water managers in 36 states anticipate shortages by 2013, a General Accounting Office report shows. Last year, Georgia lawmakers tried, unsuccessfully, to move the state's border north so that Georgia could claim part of the Tennessee River.

I tried not to say anything but I had too... They are more then welcome to build as many breweries in Pueblo as they want, we have plenty of water!

20 gallons of water to make a pint of beer??? Hmmm, I've made beer at home and it took 5 gallons of water to make 5 gallons of beer. What am I doing wrong?

I will give up many things to make for a more sustainable future, including grassy lawns, soda, stonewashed jeans and 5 gallon toilets...but you will have to pry that pint of brew from my cold, dead hands!

Default Farming was driving force for water law

This was in today's Chieftain and some interesting history on state water law:

"Colorado water law was forged in the furnace of the Civil War, and had less to do with the discovery of minerals in the mountains than to support the farmers who were feeding the miners."
