Downtown Denver, downtown Boulder, and Downtown Fort Collins are all 30 minutes from Mead (under normal traffic conditions), and DIA is about 40 minutes. The Medical Center of the Rockies at Loveland is about 15 - 20 minutes.

Mead has a small downtown with a couple of restaurants, a bank, and a gas station. The schools are highly rated, with a brand new high school built last year. My family members that live there usually shop for groceries at the newer Wal-Mart in North Longmont (corner of Hwy 66 and 287), about a 10 minute drive from their house, at most. Loveland and Longmont both have plenty of shopping within 10-15 minutes of Mead.

Compared to Berthoud, Mead is more convenient to I-25 and the amenities along the freeway. Berthoud has slightly quicker access to the mountains.
So, does Mead hear the hum from I-25? It was very quiet when I checked out the house out in the country in Berthoud.....

Depending where you are in Mead, you'll hear the constant drone of commerce on I-25.

Timnath was another speculative folly that probably won't come around again for quite some time.

Banks aren't lending and jobs aren't being created to any extent that would merit a 'recovery' in this area, so if you're in need of a big loan and/or a high paying job to cover your expenses, I'd be very careful...

Thanks for the info, Shuffler. If we ever make it there, we'll be cash buyers, so no problem with loan issues... We're close to retirement....

The thing that impressed me when I checked out the house in Berthoud was the extreme peace and quiet.

We are looking at a small amount of acreage or being on water....

I liked some homes in Windsor, but I heard 'noise'......

I like Fort Collins as a whole...I don't want to travel great distances to buy groceries, etc....my sister-in-law is on Warren Lake....very pretty setting......but with it, you get city noise......so, it's give and take, I guess....

Default advantages of schooling in rural area outside of denver

I am thinking of moving to rural area (mead colorado). Is this is a good decision for my kids to go to school in this type of school. I like the smaller classes and smaller high school population. But I'm confused and want to make sure we make a great decision. We would move to Longmont. (Mead is in the St. Vrain School District)

Can you tell me a bit about the advantages and disadvantages.
