Gov. Bill Ritter suffered "multiple rib fractures" in a bicycle accident early today.

Quote:
Ritter was treated at Denver Health Medical Center.

"He is OK and he is in good spirits," spokesman Evan Dreyer said. "He is joking and laughing."

His wife, Jeannie, was with him at the hospital.

Ritter rides two or three mornings a week with friends. Ritter and four other riders were out today around 6 a.m. when the governor collided with one of the other cyclists in the group near 23rd Avenue and High Street.

Dreyer said Ritter's front tire made contact with the tire of a bicyclist in front of him. . .

The director of the Real Estate Commission was also injured while on a bike last summer. At least she didn't cause the accident.

At least it was something we've all done - wrecking a bike - as opposed to choking on a pretzel and bashing our faces on a coffee table.
