Job offer-Limon
Hello to all, I have a few questions to ask this board. My husband revcieved a job offer 56K to move to the Limon area. From what it seems there's not much out there. We currently live in Michigan where things are really tight and would like the opportunity to make more money, but are concerned that we would be making a bad move. The same thing everyone worries about living expenses, I stay at home with 3 kids, schools, our daguhter is starting kindergarten. Does anyone know the area? How are things there? We aren't trying to take jobs from locals or be a pain we just want to live a quiet life and raise great kids and have enough to live a decent life.
Thanks-
Dori

I've never been to Limon but from maps it looks like it is all by itself out there. Personally, I like backup plans in case the job doesn't work out. Limon looks like it is at least 1.5 hours from jobs in Denver and about the same distance from Colorado Springs. If he gets canned in Limon, you might be stuck out there.

I was looking at information about Limon here on City Data Limon, Colorado (CO) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders and found some useful information.
The cost of living in Limon is cheaper, Im sure.. so if its a stable job offer and you put money away in the bank, you should be just fine.
One thing i will warn you about, unless you have satelitte radio... your AM and FM radio listening limited to about 5 or 6 stations, including a few of the higher powered AMs from Colorado Springs/Denver.. and Limon's own Classic Hits 93.7 KIIQ.

One thing for sure is you won't have to worry about hiking up any hills. It's Kansas flat out there. It's also in tornado alley.
Think small Kansas/Nebraska farm town smack in the middle of the corn belt, and that's Limon.
Cheers
Bob

Limon Colorado
I lived in Hugo Colorado for four years with my three daughters. Hugo is located 12 miles outside of Limon. We went into limon quite a bit for my work or entertainment. I left in 1997 for Texas, orginally form Colorado springs. If your husband got offered a job for 56k go for it, the cost of living is quite low. I rented an old farm house for $195.00 a month. My daughters loved the small town school, my oldest graduated from Genoa-Hugo High school. Need more info on limon, e-mail me. It is in tornando alley and was hit by a tornando in the early 90's.

My guess is that the people out in Limon are probably real nice folks. It always seems like the violent weather goes in that direction, but maybe thats just perception because of the big tornado that went through town in the 90's there.

I grew up in that area and my brothers still live in the area. Yes there is some severe weather in the summers but it is not like a house blows away every night. It is very rare that property is damaged. Limon is where one of the state prisons are. The area is populated by families who have a relative in the jail. I would not let that scare you because it is still a low crime area and it is pretty desolate. A salary of 56K should make it comfortable for you to live in that area. The life style is very laid back and slow. If you live out there I would suggest that you live in Hugo or Genoa which are both within 15 minutes of Limon. All in all I think it is a great place to raise a family. Good luck

Like the U.P.
I am a Denver Real Estate broker with a commercial listing in Limon. I was born a "Yooper" and Limon reminds me of some of the the small towns in the UP. Slower pace, local activities, churches, high school sports etc.
