I have been doing a ton of searching to try to find the perfect mountain town and need some help. We are looking for a small mountain town within 30min of skiing and less than 1.5hrs from DEN. The "kicker" is that we want to find someplace reasonably affordable (ie 4bdrm less than $400K). We currently live in the Tahoe area and are looking to move due to the crazy cost of living out here. ANY suggestions you can shoot my way would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

Truth be told, nowhere in Colorado within a half hour drive of a ski resort.

I live 15 min. from a ski area (not a "resort") and 70 min. from DIA.
Frisco is less than 10 min. from Copper, 15 min. from Breckenridge and a little more than 1.5 hr. from DIA. (real estate is expensive though.)
Evergreen is more than a half hour but less than an hour to skiing, around an hour to the airport.

Well, such a town exists in colorado, but the cost of living there is going to be comparable to Tahoe, isn't it? To find what you're looking for, you'll need to go someplace like Idaho or Montana, which are cheaper than Colorado.

Yep, there's a huge difference between old school ski areas (Loveland, A Basin, Lake Eldora) and ski resorts. I'll stick by my assertion that you won't find a 4 bedroom home under $400k within a 30 minute drive of any ski resort town in Colorado.

I'm sure you can find one in or near enough to Durango for that. Or is that not "resorty" enough for you?

Hunt around on realtor.com - you'll find some. Within a couple of minutes of looking I found several in Granby, within 30 minutes of Winter Park. Don't listen to the naysayers.

Neither Granby nor Durango are within 1.5 hours of Denver . . .

Besides, a "perfect mountain town" is one nowhere near a ski area and all of their Plastic Bavarian horse**** development.

I missed the 1.5 hours to DEN part, so Durango is out of the question, but according to Google maps Granby is 86 miles and 1 hour 38 minutes from Denver.

You probably have to find somewhere a little more than 1/2 hour from skiing, and a little more than 1.5 hours from DEN.

Near Eldora and Winter Park will be your best bets though.
