So very interesting. I love the photos especially.

So are there 4X4 guides who will take people up on Corona/Rollins?

We have hiked most of the Rollins Pass route from the Winter Park side, and stopped to imagine what each of the "ruins' along the way were like in their prime. However, like the tunnel, the trestle isn't quite as safe as one would hope. It may be that I have serious acrophobia, but the beams look, and act, like they'll crumble at any moment. It's a long way down. After my last trip over, I decided I'll take the muddy road over the top from now on.

Otherwise, hiking old railroad right of ways is one of my favorite activities, and we have a lot of them in Colorado.

I haven't heard of any, but I haven't lived over in that area for many years.

I've not heard of any either. Call the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce - they might know. I did a quick Google search and came up with this very informative article from Off Road magazine: Rollins Pass 4x4 Trail - Colorado - Off-Road Magazine

I visited Rollins Pass with my family in the mid-90's and I remember that we had some tour company drive us up in a 4x4. I remember going all the way to the top to see the remains of the hotel. I can't find anything about rollins pass tours online, so I'm guessing they don't do that any more. Anybody know for sure?

My wife and I are planning to visit winter park around July...not sure how easy the road will be to navigate ourselves. I have a Chevy Equinox AWD...not exactly an off-road vehicle, but better than a car I guess.

Bear in mind that although beautiful, Rollins Pass is just a graded road, and will not offer what most would consider '4x4 excitement'. If you are paying money for a unique 4x4 experience, try Jones Pass instead.
