How are the non profit jobs in Colorado? Like group homes for the disabled etc? Any info would be helpful thanks!!

Well, most of the jobs in non-profits are--well--non-profit, meaning volunteer. Most of the non-profits I'm aware of in Colorado have very small paid staffs--they generally rely very heavily on volunteers.

Thanks for the info but since I posted that question I have found quite a few that hire direct support care employees. Especially around Denver. Like Arc of Colorado and Eastern Colorado services and Bethesda homes. Any sound familiar? Thanks.

In the metro areas, that tends to be more true. In the smaller and rural areas, no. Obviously, if one has a professional credential that is needed (RN, etc.), then chances of finding a paying job are better. Pay scales? Well, that may be another matter.

We just moved to a small town in Colorado for my husband's new non-profit job. This is in history, and not in the care industry, but we're here nevertheless. I think it is always best to get the job pryor to moving. Then again, we moved here for the job and the fact that we're in Colorado is just happenstance. Depending on the field, the non-profit sector seems to be following the market trends of the for profit sector.

I was browsing for more non profits and I hit a gold mine of them in Pueblo. I do this type of work cuz I love it believe me I dont do it because I think I will get rich. So anything about Pueblo and what kind of town it is and is it expensive? Everyone in this Colorado forum is so nice. Thanks everyone.

Pueblo is a former steel mill town and some of that work still goes on there. It's a working class town with good people, good Mexican food and a strong Hispanic heritage. The town has a college, an Army chemical weapons storage site, a US DOT railroad test center, and is trying to re-invent itself as part of the clean energy economy. Among the Front Range / I-25 corridor it's known for being a lower cost area, a bit warmer and less snowier that other cities.
