Westcliffe Info Seeker
I am also researching the Westcliff area for a potential move with the same gardening interests and, possibly, some homestead-livestock raising as well. I haven't been able to find a lot of info on the water situation. Any hints on where to find good info for this?
I am thinking I would have to drive to Pueblo to find a job in the ER but I also have a real heart for elders and a background in nursing home care. Does anyone know any options for a nurse to work closer to Westcliffe?
My husband is 55 and I am 45. We live in Barstow, CA and it's time to get out of the heat and back to the basics. Driving 1-1.5 hours to the grocery store or any serious shopping is completely reasonable and familiar to us. Snow is another matter.
My husband is a carpenter, both commercial and housing, and he side-jobs a lot of private work (patios, fences, remodelling). Can anyone help us with info on his job prospects.
Thanks.

I understand there is at least one dr's office in Westcliffe where you might be able to find employment. There is also some sort of public health office. I met a nurse from Westcliffe at a conference I attended recently, and she told me about those places.

Satellite internet is about the only choice, then. People I know who have used Hughes (formerly DirectWay) have not been very impressed.

Kinda hard to say because many providers "bundle" services. A friend in town in the Cheyenne area has broadband cable + high-speed internet + phone from the cable company for about $100-$120 a month. I think WildBlue charges about $50 a month and up (depending on your speed and bandwidth rerquirements) for high-speed satellite internet out in the boonies, but you have pay for the dish and installation--unless they have some promotion going. My satellite TV (no internet) is about $60 per month for the "premium" package (which does NOT contain Showtime, HBO, etc.). I would guess Colorado rates are pretty similar.

I bundle in Canon City. Digital phone, broadband and cable TV. On a special for a yr of 110 dollars. Next yr if I keep all the channels I have now, it will be 130. If I go to basic digital TV channels, it will remain 110. Hope that gives you some idea.

We are familiar with the commuting distance for anything. We want a place where once a week or maybe two times a week is the average. I have had five kids and know all about multitasking and conseving resources. We want a place where we can take good long hikes and enjoy our little domain and work with our dogs in a fenced acre. If it is possible to lease some land for grazing that is just right for the land and we would deal with that., but I don't want a property where I feel guilty for watering a small garden or providing an alternate source of water for our animals.
