Working for the City
Is it possible to work for the City of Columbia, let's say in Parks and Recreation, if you are not yet a resident? I currently live in Greenville, NC and I'm thinking about applying for a job with the City of Columbia. I don't know how city jobs work, will I be considered even though I'm not a resident?
Anyone with a idea please chime in.

Yes, there are many city employees that do not live inside the city limits.

yeah.. Columbia is not like the District of Columbia where they favor DC residents over non DC residents. Unless you tell them you plan to commute from Greenville, NC.. you should not have any issues...lol

I plan on moving to Columbia if I get the job, I just always thought you needed some kind of "in" with the government or a government official to get a city job.

Oh.. you mean is Columbia like Hazzard County where you got to have your sister marry the County Commissioner Boss Hogg in order to become Sheriff??? Not necessarily.... but knowing somebody on the inside always helps...

Oh man. Show me a place where knowing someone on the inside DOESN'T help.
