The new Carolina Ale House on Columbiana Dr. has been great the 3 times I've eaten there. Rush's is the best local fast food but only because Chick-fillet is a chain. Fatz Cafe has some great pasta. Lot's of great barbeque around here, Dukes, Maurices, Farm Boys come to mind. Groucho's Deli is always a nice change of pace.

Since the Greek Festival is currently being held, I'll mention it as a Columbia institution. Opa!

Is there a Cuban sandwich place anywhere? How about Vietnamese?

For Vietnamese I know there is Golden Chopstix on Charleston Highway in West Columbia. I've heard of a place with Cuban sandwiches, but I can't remember where it was. I'll ask around.

How about a restaurant with great NY style pizza. A friend and I went to Pop's on Harden. We ate all we ordered, but decided we would not be back. Hopefully there is somewhere better.

I like Pops, but Schiano's also has good New York style pizza and subs. The best pizza in town is probably at Za's, but its more California style.

I was first exposed to tzatziki at the Pita Pit in 5 points. good stuff, i miss their steak pita. Devine Foods has great gyros, and I'm pretty sure they have tzatziki. Both those are downtown, but I'm sure your area has something.

Has anybody tried the FRIED PEPSI at the fair? Of course I'm not in SC now - but I read The State online almost daily. I don't know about frying soft drink flavored dough.

Zorbas has great gyros, they have several locations. Pizza- definitely Schianos. Burgers- Five Guys, hands down. Lunch in 5pts is all about Mr. Friendly's.
The best food and wine is definitely at Solstice in the Northeast- worth the drive! It's not as fancy as people perceive it to be. TRY IT you won't want to go anywhere else.
