(Sept. 18) -- The City of Columbia, S.C., is offering a cash-and-carry deal on an office building -- minus the cash.

The city is offering to give away a city-owned office building to anyone who wants it. The recipient just has to agree to haul the building off the property at their own expense, allowing the city to build a parking lot in its place.

yah this kinda lipservice so that preservationists are placated. Nobody is going to pay to move that building it's too expensive, they could build a building from scratch for same dough. Anyway the parking lot is good news for 5 pts which desperately needs more parking lots. and those worried about security in the State article about this a city official was quoted as saying the lot will be lit like a christmas tree.

is the local gov really to poor to move it themselves. i thought they would be greedier and at least charge for the thing and make a dime. they must be making enough money off their police mergers and corrupt policing.
