I think the proper term now is, "Ebb Tide". What happened to those Alabama fans who were posting in this thread?

I was the only person at the office (where there are more Gamecock fans than Clemson fans) to have given South Carolina a solid chance at beating Alabama. Everyone was preoccupied with the outcome during the previous week(s) and completely overlooked the impressive depth of potential in Columbia this year. This victory was no mere fluke.

I'm an Alabama alumni living in Greenville (one of the very few in the area). My wife (also an alumni) went to the game yesterday with my nephew (who is a huge Gamecocks fan) - I give a lot of credit to USC - Alabama lacked intensity, preparation, and focus. Of course, USC did have a week off to prepare. Also, it's well known that Alabama has one of the toughest schedules of the year.

I will say that Columbia looked great on ESPN's GameDay - I've never seen so many fans turn out. The noise during the game was deafening at times (according to my wife). Congratulations Gamecocks!

I will say Congratulations to the Gamecocks. They outplayed Alabama. Period.

The Alabama team that showed up to play Saturday is not the same national championship team we all have come to know.
Saban is in T-Town today with "splainin to do".

I must say 8 national chamionships for Bama is still quite the record, and for a team like USC with no national football championship ever, quite the feather in USC's cap.

As an unbiased opinion (meaning, naturally, that fans are going to make excuses), Bama looked just as focused and intense this past Saturday as they have for the last 35 games. The only difference was Carolina was playing with the fury of 1000 fighting roosters and straight man-handled the Tide.

Also keep in mind, 7 of my cousins (plus several aunts & uncles) are graduates of Alabama, and it was my own dream to join those ranks back in high school. So I have nothing but respect for the team, and am not "hating".

But one of the toughest schedules? How so? Because they're one of the only schools in the SEC to actually play a non-conference game? I'll give them that, but then, Penn St also just got trampled by the worst team in the Big Ten. Last I saw, Bama's strength of schedule rating was down in the 20s.

Bama's gripe is that the majority of their opponents this year have an off week before playing the Tide. It seems to be just a scheduling anomaly but I can see their point. And not many teams have played 4 ranked teams in their last 6 games.

To teams with national championships, like the old saying goes, "The sun don't shine on the same dog's tail all the time." To 'Bama fans, please come again. Columbia might hold some painful memories for you, but please know that you are welcome any time.

Especially since WLTX.com is reporting $1.6 million in revenue from hotels, meals etc over the weekend!

Just watched Gameday....The Horseshoe looked incredible. The only thing better was the win and atmosphere at Williams Brice. Overall, Carolina was on national TV between 7-8 hours on Saturday, awesome exposure for the school. Hopefully at some point down the road, a win over teams like Alabama will not be as big of a win.

It wasn't just a win over Alabama. It was a win over THIS ALABAMA TEAM. Over the past decade, USC is now at 3-3 against Alabama. It's not the team.

However, to come back from a narrow, but disappointing, loss to knock off the #1 team in the nation and defending national champs, handing them their first lost in 20 games and only their third in the last 35... THAT'S something worth crowing about, no matter what your record is.
