These were certainly "glowing, excited, booster posts":

The efforts by Brenda Schwarz Miller are astounding and hopefully will pay off for Columbia and the art community who need a surge of inspiration and respect for local art.

This sounds like an excellent idea! Main Street is ripe for rebirth and needs projects like these to help in revitalization efforts. I wish Brenda the best!

The last post in particular sounds really enthusiastic.

Most people who comment at the end of any article are negative. I have noticed that, no matter the topic. Some people are always sitting there waiting for the next opportunity to shoot down a good idea. Others are negative against anything they don't perceive as self-benefiting. They are an example of people who need to get lives. The people who matter are behind this project and it should do well.

I agree. Sadly many of the pointless Negative comments appear in newspapers blogs and most are whining rather than constructive comments. Personally, I'm never sure if I should laugh or send them a slice of cheese and a cracker to accompany their whine.

You can always find one or more people in every forum who are willing to be the first to jump up and point out the negative of a city, state, event, person, situation, house, 'hood, employer, church, race, politics, story, etc., for the shock effect and attention be it praise or rage.

As a general rule of thumb (in most forums, anyway) it called trolling and it is not welcomed. I see the same type of behavior in many different forums. Columbia and SC are not alone in this battle.

The best response to a negative comment is no response - as if the poster making the remark does not exist and did not make the remark.Ignore it and make positive comments. There is nothing more pathetic than a standup comic and no audience.

Brenda has a great idea and we are behind her 100%. The new mayor seems to love the idea also!
