The Construction Management Association of America has named the Township Auditorium renovation one of its two 2010 Project Achievement Award winners for renovations under $15 million. They say the venue has been returned to the spectacle it once was by Columbia-based Dennis Corporation. (Spectacle is the root word for spectacular.) It's a real feather in downtown Columbia's cap.

That's awesome; I drove by there tonight and was pleased to see how many events were running on the marquee.

That's really great. I've seen some excellent shows at the Township, but an update was sorely needed. Glad it was an upgrade as well as just a sprucing-up!

Great accolade for the Township. Hopefully I can catch a show there sometime in the near future and see the results for myself.

When I read the title of the following article, I immediately thought of the Twp. in Cola. Perhaps it is because I had read this thread, but something tells me the Miss SC Pageant will be relocating to a new home this time, and Cola now seems adequately positioned to receive them with a newly renovated venue. The timing of the news may also be a factor in my gut feeling.

While I would love to see the event come to Greenville, the Peace Center will soon undergo major league renovations that will undoubtedly cause a bit of headache until complete.

I certainly hope this event goes to Columbia, which would be a step up from Spartanburg. It would be a good fit for the city, what with the renovated Township and all. Would love to see this event in Columbia permanently.

WIS News just reported that the Miss S.C. Pageant venue will be announced Monday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center downtown. Would they hold the announcement there only to say it's staying in Spartanburg or going to Greenville? I hope not. A news report the other night said the event would pump a lot of money into the local economy.

And that is precisely why I would love to see it relocate to Greenville.
