Vision Airlines expanding Fla., Ala. destinations - Business - TheState.com (http://www.thestate.com/2011/05/17/1822437/vision-airlines-expanding-fla.html - broken link)
Actually, to clarify, there are no additional flights being added at CAE. There will now be options to connect through Destin to other destinations using the same current Vision flights. Vision did this in all the cities they serve, incluidng Asheville and Greenville. They turned Destin into a true "hub". If you Google "Vision Airlines" under news, it explains it a bit better than the article posted.
This explains it a bit better.

To be sure, it opens up some new cities via connections, but it doesn't add flights to any airports.
No, because their demise will be nothing to celebrate. I like the fact that they add low-cost options to airports like GSP and CAE, but I don't think their business model is sustainable. Destin is not a good hub city at all.

I raised that in another forum.. I dont know why they selected Destin over say Pensacola or even Mobile. It seems a little silly to make a resort city a HUB unless of course its some major place say like a Vegas or MIA.. but even MIA has "business" reasons to go there and not solely just tourist. Even Vegas is kinda of year round. I guess Destin came up with a "package deal" of incentives....

Vision was originally set-up as point to point service to funnel people to Destin. I'm sure the local government worked with Vision on incentives. It was strictly an idea to bring tourist to the "Emerald Coast". When passengers numbers didn't pan out, Vision changed Destin (VPS) to a hub with connections to try to help fill the planes. The next step? Vision stops being a scheduled carrier and goes back to being charter only. I give this upstart airline until the end of 2011.

Well technically yes, but they didn't become a "true" airline with numerous routes until recently. That is why I think they'll revert to more of what they were, with a good deal of charters.
