Since it's enclosed I think the business park model is more appropriate for it than retail these days. Malls are over in spots where people have quick access to other options.
I agree with malls being over. I'm arguing for a tear down of the old mall and building new retail there instead of repurposing the existing retail space in a non-retail manner. What I'm advocating is more like Crosshill or Trenholm Plaza.

Point taken. It's a lot less expensive to move a school into a former department store building than to tear it down and start over. At this point I'm just glad to see the space get occupied.
If anything isn't becoming more of a real Town Center than the suburban outdoor malls. It's getting an interesting mixture of uses which may eventually make this and the surrounding area "downtown Forest Acres." Thoughts? Density could increase and this area would be like the Main Street of the area.
I was reading an article about Trader Joe's and one interesting thing said was one of the problems with the Columbia area is it is so spread out, the chain stores cannot decide where to go. Harbison, Forest Acres, Garners Ferry Rd., Northeast, etc. so they decide to wait and see.

I like the fact that the higher end and cooler retailers are locating in-town or in inner suburbs.
Does anybody know why TGI Fridays closed? Was it for lack of business or did they just want to get out? I wonder if they will reopen elsewhere...like in the Vista old (Carolina Wings/Ale) or Crosshill? The later may be more preferable given that it is already dominated by chains....
I heard it was a combination of things. Slowing sales, lease running out, demographics of the area not improving, etc. No one thing caused it. I think it would be a good fit in the Vista and even suggested it could be successful at the old Damon's site. Imagine the crowd they could pull at the old New Orleans site.
Tear it down and put a nice park or mixed use development on site I say. Put it out of its misery already. No point in trying to save this mall that has been on life support for years.
