I think Columbia Regional Business Journal is a subsidiary of The State Newspaper. I'm a subscriber to The State and don't get blocked from reading articles by them or their affiliates. It was an honest question, but I see where someone could take it the wrong way, like "are you too lazy or not curious enough to click the link and read the article?" I didn't mean it that way. That would be offensive. I play defense sometimes when I probably should just let things slide, but being offensive isn't my nature.
police to wear body cams in the Vista and 5pts in Columbia, it's a pilot program:
"Columbia police are testing body-worn cameras as an attempt to win more public support and to show the embattled department is both transparent and is using innovative policing methods"
Not to get off topic but I believe every police car should have a dash cam and every police officer must wear at least some sort of recording device. I have observed first hand how most people act different when they know they are being recorded.
Would love to see Five Points development move along Harden more 'north" towards Gervais Street and up towards Benedict. It would be nice to see that entire corridor fill in with new development once Columbia Commons comes on line.. though I imagine it may be stifled now because of Allen-Benedict Homes. At a minimum.. the area across from Food Lion, next to Cook Out, and the four corners of Gervais and Harden should redevelop.........
I remember when Richland County Government moved off of Main Street to their current location on Harden/Hampton St.. People said it was the nail in the coffin if a municipal government agency moves from the downtown area... as in it was a vote of "no confidence" by the County in the downtown revitalization efforts. At the time, I was one who thought that was the case. The County indicated that moving over to Harden would help revitalize that corner of the CBD... Its ironic that since the County left.. Main Street (though slowly) has begun to boom.. while the Harden Hampton Street area, despite the County's presence, has stagnated/not improved to any major degree... though Allen Univ and Benedict have made some noted improvements in the area...There has been have been the new mixed use structure on Harden and Taylor, the new housing/Drew Center/shopping center....but I guess until ABC (Allen Benedict Court) moves not alot else will happen
