"I was looking for opinions on Breenan / Crayton vs Rosewood / Hand. High school isn't as important right now as it is a long way away, but also as we may be in the Flora / Dreher walk zone."
Satchel Ford is an excellent school, as are Brennan and Rosewood. I know several families with children in all three schools and they are all very happy with their respective programs. Rosewood does have the advantage of feeding into Hand for middle school. While I have not heard anything particularly bad about Crayton, I understand Hand is more desirable (at least that is what I hear from the friends who are zoned for Crayton and wish their children were going to Hand instead). Hand has a number of magnet programs, including an optional single gender program.
As a mom, I can speak to the schools on my side of town. The top elementary schools in Richland 2 are Lake Carolina and Bookman Road. Lake Carolina is so overcrowded, the spillover have moved to the new Bridge Creek School. Just in my particular neighborhood in Wildewood, I can think of at least 5 families who have chosen the choice option to send their children to Bookman Rd. The 2 Blythewood schools also have a good reputation.
