Today I overheard someone talking about a Costco warehouse construction site somewhere either in north Columbia or a little north of Columbia. However, I missed the street names. Anyone else know of this construction site?

Thanks

I haven't heard, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was in the area around the Village at Sandhill.

Here is the Costco grand opening list through Fall 2011 and Columbia is not listed. Are you sure it was Costco?

So Costco thinks Augusta is a more desirable metro to locate in than Columbia. Nothing against Augusta, but I don't think Costco could really think that. There's some spot somewhere in Augusta where a lot of people of a certain demographic that Costco looks for live. That's got to be it. Also, Columbia has a bunch of Walmart superstores that are very strategically positioned throughout the metro. Maybe Costco hasn't found its spot in Columbia far enough away from those superstores. The developers of Richland Mall say they aren't ready to divulge, but that they are in talks with major national retailers and that they have closely analyzed what Columbians say they want in that mall. Costco has started moving into malls and rehabbing space as needed. Maybe they are one of the major national retailers in talks. Who knows what major national retailers have Columbia on their radar screen.

West Augusta/Columbia County I-20 corridor very high volume traffic area pretty easy to get to from just about anywhere in Richmond, Aiken or Columbia Counties.

The location in Augusta were Costco is building is within 5 miles of 3 different Walmart Supercenter and with 7 miles 2 others its actually being placed almost dead center of them all.

To be fair to Columbia Augusta is not on the list either and pre-construction has already started there.

The Village at Riverwatch is building in a very desirable area of Richmond County... The Augusta mall, Surrey Center, Augusta Exchange, and the future Village at Riverwatch(first tenant Costco) and Wheeler Town Park(completed Carmax) are located within 3 miles of each other in West Augusta.. The website stops for the month of August, the Costco in Augusta isn't suppose to open until November.. Costco may look at the percentage of people with incomes over $250k? I found some intresting stats between the Augusta mall and Columbiana Centre... This might explain why the Augusta mall has Apple, Sephora, etc...

Columbiana Centre
Trae area 330k
Avg household income $64,552
Median household income $52,049
Per Capita $26,120[

Income $75,000 - $99,999/13.62%
Income $100,000 - $149,999/11.93%
Income $150,000 - $249,999/ 3.53%
Income $250,000 - $499,999/ 0.90%
Income $500,000 or more/0.34%

Augusta mall
Trade area 516k
Avg household income $59,908
Median household income $45,710
Per Capita $23,170
Income $75,000 - $99,999/11.37%
Income $100,000 - $149,999/10.08%
Income $150,000 - $249,999/3.52%
Income $250,000 - $499,999/ 0.97%
Income $500,000 or more/ 0.37%

Yes, I'm sure it was Costco. The person that I overheard does marketing in the area, so she regularly speaks with the local businesses. Not only did she say that the construction was looking like a Costco warehouse, but she also mentioned that people from the local businesses were all saying that it is going to be a Costco.

I've also seen that list of future openings, but I don't think that it is complete. I've seen people talking about openings this year that are not on that list. Also, I've seen somewhere (I can't remember where) that Costco plans on opening 16 stores in the US in 2011. That list doesn't contain 16 stores, so I'm guessing that there are a few openings that aren't on that list.

LODI, CA June 2011
SAN MARCOS, CA – REOPENING June 2011
COURTENAY, BC, CANADA June 2011
AUBURN, AUSTRALIA July 2011
TAINAN, TAIWAN August 2011
YAWATA, JAPAN August 2011

PEWAUKEE, WI Fall 2011
FREDERICTON, NB Canada Fall 2011
