A legal separation is NOT a legal divorce! You just keep going round and round in circles about this on here. Without reading the court papers, there's no way to know exactly why the judge denied the divorce. The answer IS in those court docs.

She can also file for a divorce. She can have different grounds and may be able to prove it. Or she filed for the legal separation, waited the year, and the divorce was granted. Again, it's in the court docs!

What's it matter anyway if he's dead? Yes, a spouse has to be married for 10 years to be able to collect social security if their spouse dies. If she gets remarried, she will lose those benefits also.

A legal separation and a divorce are different. You can remarry with a divorce. You cannot with a separation.

He wasn't denied a divorce. He was denied a divorce of the grounds of physcal abuse.
