A recent article in The State documented that on 100-degree days it's 85 degrees in the shade. Columbia is a Tree City USA city because of its shade trees. Columbia is in line with other southern cities on the exercise front, at least the cities the magazine bothered to list.

I don't get the gville/cola debate. Totally different "places". I'd check out the Kayaking thing. Went the other day, it's not exactly the Colorado, but it's more then I can handle at the moment.
The gville/columbia debate is nothing more than a few Greenville posters always looking for a way to bring up something negative about Columbia. Most of the time, Gsupstate is the lead offender, he has tried this on other boards but, they seem to edit him out a little more than CD. He likes to bring up irrelevant lists like the one which has caused the stir on this thread as a way to insinuate that Columbia is a terrible place. Of course, if you believe half of the content on magazine lists, you should get out of your parents basement.

Anyone could live in either place and be happy. Columbia has some terrific natural amenities like the rivers, lakes and national forests. The night scene could be a little better but, I hear people complain about Charlotte's night scene so, I guess it depends on the mood at that moment in time.

Hi Frank. Welcome to Columbia! I am on the board of the Contemporaries and the Palladium (Historic Columbia) so if you need any advice on that I would say go for it! If you're interested in Kayaking..head over to Get Your Gear On by the zoo and ask them about groups, classes, etc...

On another note, my events and PR company, Flock and Rally has a fun entertainment calendar at FLOCK and RALLY Our next big event is a huge halloween party that's a fundraiser for the 701 Center for Contemporary Art (701 CCA). Good luck and let us know what you fall in to!

One of Columbia's movers and shakers in the contemporary art scene is raising the bar as he celebrates his gallery's fifth year.

Visual art is one thing bringing a lot of energy and enthusiasm to Columbia. Some of the state's best contemporary art is now on exhibition at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art at 701 Whaley Street. And the Tapp's Art Center and Arcade Artist Studios have joined the Columbia Museum of Art on Main Street, creating synergy. Art galleries and studios also dot the Vista and Devine Street corridor.

Biennial, Part 2, opens at 701 CCA - Life & Style - TheState.com (http://www.thestate.com/2011/11/17/2048835/biennial-part-2-opens-at-701-cca.html - broken link)

Of course now, Gamecock football is another energizer around here. Related retail will be flying off the shelves between now and Christmas.
