Staying at the Holiday Inn Suites Airport West Columbia. Just wondering if there is a nice area nearby with lots of restaurants/shopping, or will I have to go elsewhere in town?
Looking for craft beer type places (maybe upscale sports bar is what you'd call it)?
Would like opinions on West Columbia as well, compared to other areas of Columbia
That's mostly a strip-mallish area you're staying in, but there actually is a fantastic thai place right near you: Mai Thai. But you're not all that far (a 5 minute drive) from the corner of State and Meeting in West Columbia, right across the river from Columbia proper. There you'll find some good spots, including Terra (approachable upscale dining), Cafe Strudel (brunch spot), and New Brookland Tavern (good local music dive). And at that point you're just across the bridge from the Vista. That's a nice area, close to what you're looking for, I think. Flying Saucer leaps to mind as a place that's right up your alley (and it's technically a chain, though it doesn't feel like one, so you may be familiar with it). It's got something like 200 varieties of beer. But that's just a starting place. There are plenty of places in the Vista for you.
In short, you're just a stones throw from most of Columbia.
