Default Job Market in Public Health

I am a native South Carolinian and my husband and I are thinking about relocating to Columbia; we currently live outside of Washington, DC. Is there a job market for someone with a program management background? I have a masters degree in public health and he has a bachelors degree. He works for as a sales manager for a large company and I am a project manager on a government contract. How is the job market for both of us there?

USC has one of the top Schools of Public Health in the country along with a new facility. I don't know if academia has any interest for you, but that is an option along with all of the other research facilities at USC. Columbia is also home to the USC Medical School and 7 hospitals and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, so there should be no shortage of job opportunities for you. As far as your husband, it sounds like there are a lot of fields he could fit into. The unemployment rate in the Columbia area is very low. Good luck on your search.

I truthfully don't know that much about your career situations. There are probably opportunities for you, but I have no idea how the expectations and salaries compare with DC. I know when I was looking around when I decided to make a career change I saw a lot of medical field positions on monster.com and those type sites.

If you are relocating, now is a great time to buy here. The market is still strong, but definitely favors buyers right now. Hope I helped at least a little bit.-Brandon
