Hi everyone,

I am looking for feedback on Arcadia's Edge because I am thinking about moving to Columbia this fall (see my other thread with my moving criteria here). I understand that this apartment complex just opened (and that may be why I haven't been able to find any reviews, etc), but I'm a little confused...

From the apartment website, it looks like it has some high end amenities (saltwater pool, gated entry, green certification and all non-smoking property, etc); but, from google maps, it looks like it's not in a great part of town (pawn shops, etc nearby)?

Here is a link to the apartment website: Arcadia's Edge Apartments in Columbia South Carolina | Move to the Edge.

Can anyone comment on Arcadia's Edge or area around it?

Thanks!

Yeah, just by looking at Google Maps, I can see that it's essentially right near run-down Columbia Mall. My brother lived maybe a 1/2 mile up Parklane from where Arcadia's Edge is at, and got stuff stolen a few times. I honestly wouldn't even give it a thought with how close it is to Two Notch. I feel like it's right up there with Broad River Road on how ghetto it is. Longhorn is about the best thing in close proximity to you. I find it hilarious when you click on "The Area" link and it shows restaurants/shopping/etc that is over 3 miles away on Forest Dr. Think that goes to show you that there isn't great stuff nearby.

Thanks, mjpayne44 - that's what I was thinking too... The non-smoking aspect was a huge selling point for me (along with the other resort style amenities), so I was hoping that part of town was undergoing major renovations or google maps got it totally wrong or something...

Bummer.

I used to live in apts on parklane as well. The APT complexes are mixed bags, they are very nice looking and nice inside, just the occupants and sketchiness is crazy. The Arcadia's edge apt are the ones by burger king right? It's strange, you drive <3 minutes down Trenholm and you are at forest drive that is amazing and high end. Two notch has become a little run down but I like their efforts to spruce it up. They upgraded some of the restaurants nearby they claimed it the "international corridor" with all the diversity of restaurants down the street. But it still has quite a ways to go. From what i've heard it use to be very high end and nice! I never saw it but, they used to have a Olive Garden and there are porshe, acura, bmw, audi, etc dealers a few blocks away. The mall is pretty deserted, I use to eat there everyday when I had to work around there.

I went to Dent Middle and that area is a little rough. My parents ended up moving us to Northeast Richland. That being said, if you travel south on Trenholm Road then you are fine but if you turn left out of the complex you will run into a sketchy part of time very quickly. Columbia Place Mall is not doing well and is considered a dying mall. Maybe you would want to try closer to the Forest Drive part of Trenholm because all of those neighborhood are considered pretty nice.

Don't listen to these comments - that complex is on Trenholm Road - not on Decker, Parklane or Two Notch. There is not a bad place on Trenholm Road - period.

You do know that this is basically at the intersection of Trenholm and Decker which is one stoplight away from the intersection on Two Notch and Parklane? I would probably get an apartment here but some people may not feel safe near that intersection.

It's literally 30 seconds or less from Decker so I think the above comments apply to this complex.

I also know that isn't a bad area - I've lived in Columbia for 40 years, 8 of those off Trenholm Road; how long have you lived here?

Seeing as I'm only 22, you have me beat there but that area is not the best for a young woman especially when she wants to leave her car and apartment alone for a week or more at a time. It is very close to Two Notch and Decker. Did you live right across from Dent Middle on Trenholm because it is the roughest part of Trenholm. Decker and Two Notch both have numerous vacancies. I didn't say she shouldn't live there but at the price she is living, there are numerous locations even on Trenholm that are in better locations.

Okay so I drove by the apartment complex and it's actually a little aways off of decker. maybe 30 seconds as you said by car. That being said, I saw quite a few people jogging/walking down trenholm and believe me, trenholm is night and day from decker. Anyhow the apartments did look geniunely nice and homely. If you turned right and walked down trenholm, you'll see many very nice and expensive brick houses veering off of trenholm and the road is shaded with many trees along the way. Actually at first I would have said no but after seeing it in person it doesn't look too bad after all. Literally by car, you can get to forest drive in 3 minutes, which is high class uppity.

The apartment was next to some swamp looking water so eh.... can't have it all I guess.
