since there have been a couple more indoor shooting ranges that have opened up in the area over the past couple years, just thought i'd see if there is any feedback out there on what ones are nicest to shoot at, perhaps what ones maybe are too crowded, etc? I havent shot at one yet, and will be going soon to try out an old family pistol i have.

as always, thanks!

Shooter's Choice in West Columbia. It gets mixed reviews online but I have never had a problem the couple of times I've been. I also hear good things about Defender in Lexington but I haven't been.

Palmetto State Armory on fernandina has an 18 lane range with 8 rifle lanes. It's hands down the best range in SC.

I second the Palmetto State armory's range as being the best in the area. Defender is a close second and Shooter's Choice a close 3rd (IMHO).

Does anyone have a recommendation for a public outdoor range?

good question, i've been curious myself. When searching, I've found the following out in Newberry (Indian Creek shooting range) but have yet to try it. I only have a pistol but thought it would be nice to shoot at more then paper targets lol.

This thread is very timely for me as I have been looking for a range. I need a place where I can fire from the prone position. Defender said I can't at their place and Palmetto still has not returned an e-mail after three days. Someone said to fire from a prone position might mean I need an outdoor range, but I can't find one of those either.

I'm surprised there aren't public outdoor ranges in Richland or Lexington counties. Do people know of unofficial ranges in the area that are used for shooting? When I lived in Utah people would go target shooting every weekend in the mountains or old rock quarries. These weren't official shooting ranges but were*public lands that were commonly used for target shooting.
