Hello,

I am planning a trip from Buffalo NY to possibly Columbia SC at the end of February or beginning of march. The reason for this trip is we are getting stir crazy and are dying to golf, a d are trying to find someplace about 12 hours away by car with warm enough weather to play. It looks like by the end of February the weather there averages 60s, can any locals verify this? Or would we be best to head further south at this time of year?

Thanks!

Don't come here. Go to Myrtle Beach. Great off season deals at the beach. Weather shouldn't be an issue if you're from Buffalo. But are you sure it's only a 12 hour drive? I haven't done a mapquest but Buffalo seems a lot further than 12 hours.

Yes, according to google at least. It calls for 12 hours to Columbia, and 14 to myrtle. I had looked at MB but we are going around spring break and I figured avoiding it may be a good choice.

I appreciate the info...

We'd love to have you visit Columbia, but Columbia is a business, government and education center and not really a golfing haven. I don't golf so I can't give you much advice there. Myrtle Beach or Santee are options in SC along with Hilton Head Island. The weather here can be very nice in late February or early March, but it can also be chilly or even snow on occasion.

Well, if that's the case.......come on down. Columbia is not a "destination" city like most people are looking for, but it certainly fits your criteria. There are plenty of golf courses within a 15 mile radius. I'm sure they too have some decent off season deals. I would suggest staying downtown in the Vista for your evening entertainment. There is a really nice Hilton and a newer Hampton Inn in the Vista which is in walking distance to numerous restaurants and bars.

I appreciate the responses! We are not looking for a destination type place, just someplace warm enough to play and relatively close (I bet we can get there in 10 hours) we will probably be there only a day or so, so as far as "things to do", play 18 holes and eat some food is really all that's on the list

Oak Hills looks like a good bet, and as far as hotels go, I typically stay free at hiltons and hamptons so that'll work great for us...

You will enjoy Oak Hills, it is a fine course that doesn't get near enough play.
