Hmmm...
A full city-county merger ain't happening, so there's no need to waste time on it. I don't even think a quasi-merger, like Charlotte-Mecklenburg (in which some functions are merged, some are not), will go very far. Remember the proposed merger between the city police department and county sheriff's department?

I think someone else before brought up (might have been you) the merger between the police department and the county department. Now that I think about it, I don't recall that... What happened? I take it got shot down, crashed and burned?

Columbia Regional Business Report | Columbia, SC

Certainly the city is "poised" to take its place among some of the other midsize cities in the SE. I do think Columbia should explore more Regional opportunities not only in state but also in partnership with Cities like Charlotte, Charleston, and Augusta...especially on this highspeed rail initiatives. That will certainly give the City a boost.. .CAE is all well and good but that cant be the ONLY way to get to and from Columbia for business/leisure travelers.I dont want to leave out Greenville.. but I doubt there will be a rail connection (though not a bad idea) between Greenville and Columbia

Coincidentally I just got home from Richland Library where I read in the hard copy of Columbia Regional Business Report that both the mayor and Sheriff Leon Lott agree that the idea of merging the sheriff's department and CPD is probably dead.

The Rank and File in both organizations probably would stage a mutiny if this would to even be discussed seriously...especially among the higher ranking officers

If Boeing had set up shop in Columbia, some Texas transplant or somebody would have been all over this, even though none of the problem aircraft were manufactured in South Carolina.

That link does reflect my views of Publix. Extremely clean and great staff, but a little high on the price.
