Some out of state folks really want steve to stay mayor. Out of state money funding campaigns is becoming more and more commonplace even in local elections. Interesting that some former mayors of big cities are supporting him financially

Probably because he has a pretty high profile in the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

As they say, "the best defense is a good offense". He's sucking the air out of the room to make sure he runs unopposed or at least doesn't have a serious challenger.

What's surprising is thinking was Benjamin would run for governor

He was really close with Hillary Clinton and her campaign. Had she won, he would have had a real shot at a federal appointment. His grander plans are likely on hold for now.

This. Might I add he was also on a "list" of possible appointment to be Vice President alongside Hillary Clinton, if that's what you're referring to.

Zoning board denies addition to controversial West Columbia chic - wistv.com - Columbia, South Carolina

That plant and that mini mall needs to go.

The mini mall i would like to be turned into a a village with mixed use buildings. Just a thought. And the plant could be a bunch of Probably high price condos or apartments none of us can afford.

This should be one big NOTHINGBURGER with cheese... The City needs to work with the owner to identify another parcel in a more appropriate area and relocate the plant. There could be local and state incentives to help facilitate this and likely a potential developer who might be interested in their current property.. West Cola may not have an economic development machine like Columbia but I am sure Lexington County and even the State Economic Development arm could assist.... There are plenty of options out near I-26.. ideally they should want to keep them in West Columbia proper.
