As you mentioned, Alabama's flags weren't explicitly protected by state laws. All indications suggest that SC lawmakers are largely in favor of removal. Just caught up in the sloooooooow process of lawmaking.

Gov. Bentley was able to do that via executive order. However, after the Confederate flag was moved to the monument in SC, a law was enacted that required a 2/3 vote in the General Assembly in order to move it again.

Wouldn't it be great to see them become a bonafide big business?

It would be excellent! A home-grown power player would be a welcome addition.

I know it may not be in the best light with it being a bunch of debates and rallies and all, but I have to say regardless of that, that national media has gotten some great shots of Main Street through their coverage!!

I've thought that, too. NBC News had live coverage from the State House grounds with ABC Columbia and Main Street in the background. The traffic and pedestrian activity was vibrant, and the traffic noise had that familiar sound of "big city traffic," if that makes sense.
