The CBD continues to "excel" in the absorption of office space. In fact, space is so much in demand it has become tight enough for businesses to start turning to the suburbs for space. Surely a significant development is in the not-too-distant future.

That's great news, if it works out.

It's worth noting that the leader of the new development group is the same woman who was a trendsetter in the Vista many years ago.

Someone has already mentioned that Ben Arnold bought the Moe Levy's building. This article doesn't mention going vertical on that corner. It just mentions renovating the existing building.

Harold is a real good guy and I for one am certainly sad to see the Columbia Icon close, but I am certainly glad to see that the family will be able to reap the deserving benefits and watch as their building becomes another huge turning point in downtown re-development. Excited to see what Ben Arnold has up his sleeve for this.

Also, what is the deal with the grey building with the red FSBO sign in the window between Moe Levy's and Palms? That seems like another opportunity waiting to happen as well.

[My apologies for double-posting, my initial post would have been more appropriately entered in this thread.]

Some friends of ours were in town last weekend, one of whom is a prototypical Columbia-hating Clemson graduate. As we were driving along Assembly St., Main St., and through the Vista going to various places, the Columbia-hater remarked on all the construction and changes throughout the CBD. I then mentioned a few of the other yet-to-be-started projects and pointed out where they'd be. The Columbia-hater was impressed and asked if he'd missed any news about major new industry or jobs coming to Columbia. My response was, no, no marquis industries like BMW or Boeing, just the aggregate impact of Amazon, Aflac, Nephron, various banks, growth at USC, and generally-improving economy. Despite his best efforts, he was visibly impressed with all the investment going on in Columbia.
