Cantina 76 was packed tonight with overflow onto the sidewalk around 7 this evening - Monday. And at 5:30, construction workers were in the building that will soon be Al Amir.

I attended City Center Partnership's annual meeting and celebration last night at the Tapp's Arts Center. They gave a run-down of what has happened in the last year as well as the last 10 years in the CBD. There's really a lot to be happy about and proud of. BTW, they said Soda City Farmer's Market will be expanding to another block in 2014.

I'm sure it would be good if they did, I'd kind of question the feasibility of pushing it down main street though. The only way to do it would be to leave the intersection at Hampton or Taylor open, unless they're thinking of letting it dogleg down Hampton street. Shutting down the intersection at Main and Taylor would be a disaster in the making. I don't know why it doesn't spill over into the plaza (although I'm sure it could be property/use issue with TD)

After you posted this I emailed the writer for The State and said The Hub is marketing to young professionals also. In response he sent me the following statement from Core Campus, the company that manages The Hub.

Our focus is solely on student housing and our business model is simple: purchase and develop core-campus product that is superior to our competition.
We specialize in acquisitions, developments and in-house management, working strategically with our management team to develop and build a product tailored to the needs and desires of the local markets where we invest. Furthermore, our in-house management team allows us to implement a strategic leasing plan with the ability to quickly adapt to the changes in the market.
Core Campus strives to be the pioneering developer in each campus we target, so that our name is the first thing students, parents, and universities think of when they are looking for innovative first-class student housing.

LOL wow that is incredibly lazy reporting on his part considering that is directly off of their website!

Core Campus is a very new company and thats exactly what they have done at their other two hubs in Tempe, AZ and Oxford, Ms. Apparently the original plan was to do the same thing here but over the summer once they dove further into the market and realized the wealth of young professionals in this market compared to the others, they decided to take a different direction in Columbia to better suit the market by opening it up to anyone and marketing it as apartments for students AND young professionals and not as student housing.

Anytime I have ever spoken with the folks over there the first thing they say is we are NOT a student dorm and open to everyone. I also mentioned that I had corrected several people on it and she wanted me to tell everyone that its not a dorm or student apartments.

He probably would have known this if he did more than look at a website! Thanks for emailing and sharing this might have made my day!!

I emailed this right back at him.

On the other hand:

"Experience the newest, most amazing, residence Columbia has ever seen. Serving USC, other nearby colleges and professionals in the downtown area, Hub At Columbia is the next generation of student living. Don't be left out."

I wish you would show the article to the person you spoke to at The Hub. Maybe that person will call The State or the writer himself.

I was beginning to wonder if the new owners of the Keenan building had only torn off enough of the metal siding to make it seem like they were serious and then stopped, but yesterday I saw a demolition crew tearing off more siding and throwing it on a trailer by the sidewalk.
