Default Columbia Private School - Any insider information?

We are moving from San Antonio to Columbia. We have narrowed down to Ben Lippen and Covenant Christian School (Presbyterian). Does anyone know anything about either school? We are looking for a Christian high school for my son.

Melinda

Have you looked at Heathwood Hall? (Episcopal) I would have to say that they probably have the best reputation amongst private schools in the Columbia area.

I graduated from Ben Lippen in '96. I thought it was a great school. Wasn't one single fight there the entire 3 years I was there. Most students got along rather well and the teachers really care about the students. I ended up going to Midlands Technical College and all my classes were a breeze. Granted that Mid. Tech. isn't exactly the most difficult college around. It's extremely rare that someone doesn't graduate and 90% of the graduates go on to college...usually good ones. It's gone up in price quite a bit since I was there, so as long as money isn't much of a concern BL won't be a bad choice.

I played sports against Ben Lippen for years, and I know a few BL grads. Probably the nicest, friendliest student body that you could imagine, and it has a good academic reputation. However, private schools often carry the reputation of being insular and having sheltered students, and I would say that Ben Lippen has a reputation of being especially so.

Just to be clear - what do you mean by "Christian school" ? There are varying degrees of religous education. For example, Heathwood Hall is Episcopalian, Cardinal Newman is Catholic, but I don't think either of them have the level of religious involvement that Ben Lippen does.

Ben Lippen is a super great school. We don't have kids but I have heard lots of great comments from a variety of people about the school. From what I've heard and seen from those enrolled, your son would have a great education, centered on God, and he would be challenged.

Melinda,
I am a mother of 3 children who attend SACS in San Antonio. There is a stong chance that we will be moving to Columbia, so I have been researching Ben Lippen too. What did you decide?
