Is there any word on expansion or new stores like Apple coming to Columbiana? I am still baffled as to how Augusta Mall has an Apple Store and Columbiana does not. No knock on Augusta but I cant think of a reason as to why Augusta would have gotten one before we did. The only somewhat reasoning I could think of is the Augusta Mall expansion they did in 2007 and if that is the reason, is Columbiana going to do that? I think they probably should anyway since you have Bull Street and Killian Crossing in the works as well as Sandhills and the fact that they are at or near 100% occupancy.

Any Insight?

Time and again, national chains say they have been looking in Columbia for years when they announce a store here. It's a matter of finding the first spot that's convenient to enough people who fit their demographic. Often, not long after they find that first spot, the second spot comes on line and Columbia gets two. Thus far in the growth of the metro's population, the number of people who fit many companies' demographic needs are split between the eastern and western parts of the metro. Next thing you know both sides have enough people who fit the needed demographic within a convenient radius and voila - we have two.

Apple in general is not opening as many stores at the same rate they were in years past.
It's just not as important to them anymore it seems. See link to article.

Apple stores: They're crazy successful. Why doesn't Apple open more?

So, in other words, not getting an Apple store now is not a knock on us. With a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, AND Earth Fare, we are on the upswing, but our upswing is coinciding with Apple's downswing on retail stores.

There probably should be a Harbison thread. Columbia is about to get the state's second Tilted Kilt.

I would not be surprised to see Von Maur move into their old spot.

Sears is a dying brand. How about Nordstrom's along with an addition?

Why Von Maur? They're mostly in the Midwest.

Not to stoke the fire too much....but they could also take a page from the playbook of Cumberland Mall in Atlanta, and add a Costco as an anchor tenant (with expansion at the former Sears site,of course).
