Question: My Son voluntarily left my home to move in with his father, who is not now nor has ever been an actively engaged parent. But nevertheless he saw an opportunity for MONEY and has sued me for child support. Of course the court gave it to him but my son the last year has half attended school and only goes to get the certificate of completion. He started rebelling around two years ago therefore messed up his chances for getting a high school diploma. His father sued me but is not actively engaged in parenting or his education. The school calls me all the time ....Father is non reponsive is some of the comments I get from the teachers....My question is since he is 18 but enrolled in high school but not seeking a high school diploma do I legally still have to pay child support? I'm in SC if that helps.

I think you need to contact an attorney.

Well, honestly, you can't come to this forum and expect quality answers unless there happens to be a lawyer lurking around who doesn't mind working for free. But this is your kid and your issue, so if you're serious about it, find the information you need, even if you have to call the SC Bar or even the court and ask for advice. Look for support groups for parents in similiar situations, whether online or in real life. I don't know what to tell you other than that.

How long has the court told you to pay?

Getting free advice from a bunch of amateurs on a website will end up costing you more in the long run.
