Here's a crazy Idea.
A Hard Rock Cafe at Bull Street Commons. Behind the Stadium with a Condo or Apartment above it.
Just a crazy ideas I know Hard Rock is popular and I know it would draw crowds to Columbia and Bull Street a lot
While there is one in Myrtle Beach, I think Columbia is just not touristy or big enough for a Hard Rock.
It's interesting, because I remember 10-15 years ago, it seemed liked the Hard Rock brand was on life support, but now it seems like it's doing much better after the Seminole Tribe of Florida bought them in 2006 for $965 million. I know Planet Hollywood collapsed and went from almost 50 restaurants in the US, down to, I think, 4 today with only 6 total worldwide.
Funny story, back in the 90's, my home town team, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons (AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies at the time) had a restaurant inside of their stadium down the first base side and my older sister was a hostess there while in college and it was called the Hard Ball Cafe, a paradoy of the Hard Rock Cafe. It did quite well, and after many years they eventually changed the name to the Stadium Club.
From Camden over here! Whenever my family goes to Columbia for shopping and eating out they always go to Sandhills or Columbiana Centre (and to Riverbanks Zoo every now and then), as a result I'm not as acquainted with Columbia as I should be for someone who has lived almost a decade in South Carolina. What are other good areas to do some shopping, sightseeing and eat?

Definitely the Vista, Main Street and Five Points.

Main Street: Start near Mast General Store/The Grand and wander down toward the Statehouse. If you go on a Saturday morning, the Soda City Market will be happening and you'll have a great time.
Sham policy that probably won't do much good. While I would like to see more investment, it is hard to say who will actually be in a position to benefit development. I mean how many people are looking to roll existing capital gains into a risky opportunity fund for preferential tax treatment?
Kevin Fisher? I'm not interested in anything he suggests. Bull Street was always supposed to be a 25 year project, ala Canalside. FYI, NOTHING happens quickly in this state.
