Right on. I'm not very familiar with the school. I don't think it existed when I graduated from high school (in Sumter) a few decades ago, and while I do have a family member who attended for a few years, I never heard much about it, good or bad. Just wanted to make sure we were mentioning that it is a very small school (which, as you point out, has a lot of pluses).
It has been around for a very long time. Just under different names and authority. It originated as St. Jude HS located at St. Jude Church. I actually went there one year many, many, many years ago. Then, when district 17 no longer needed the Council Street campus, they aquired it and opened as Sumter Catholic HS. After several years, they were unable to maintain the upkeep on the large building and the Diocese of Charleston pulled it's support and closed the school. A number of families got together and aquired another, smaller school from the district and opened up as St. Francis Xavier indepentantly from the diocese. Even today, it operates independantly from the diocese, however it follows the same guidelines set for all other Catholic schools. And even though it exists independantly, the diocese does recognize it as a Catholic school. It just does not receive any formal financial support. It is also a member of SCISA. South Carolina Independant Schools Assoc.

Gotcha. I remember St. Jude, and vaguely recall it closing right around the time I left Sumter. Thanks for the history.
Just curious, where and when did you graduate? I graduated in '86 from SHS.
