You mentioned Richland Mall and for the life of me I don't know why that mall declined given its location. I went to Lens Crafters in there and was amazed at how nice but empty the mall is. Even the lights are turned down which makes it even more gloomy. Plans from townhomes on top to hotel anchors have come and gone but nothing has taken hold. Part of Columbia Places problem was a perception of crime that drew some shoppers away. Macy's must be getting a hell of a deal. I am surprised they haven't move to Dutch Square or Richland Mall

In general, malls have been dying. Trenholm Plaza is thriving while Richland Mall is barely hanging on. I think the trend has just been switched from enclosed malls back to old strip centers. Richland Mall was crammed into too small a spot and it only really had access on one side. I loved it after the renovation, but it was an odd layout. I'd actually like to see Macy's move downtown to BullStreet and maybe rebrand into a Bloomingdale's.

Does anybody know what they are going to put on Broad River Rd exit 101 across from Jim Hudson Toyota? They cleared a large amount of land including removing the Exxon gas station. I checked the construction company(Cummings)'s website but there is no mention of that area. Thanks.

Interesting. I live out that way and just recently saw it. I didn't like that gas station much anyway... Lol

Great location for a hotel by the way. Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks for the info. This hotel will be situated in an interesting area. I wonder how many entrances it will have and if it will have an entrance directly from Lake Murray Boulevard. An entrance there could be too close to the off-ramp from I-26.

The bulk of that land is/was owned by Rush's.
