We are looking at relocating to the Columbia Lexington area in the early spring. We just visited a few weeks ago and liked what we saw. We are contemplating buying an existing home or having one built. I am looking for any information anyone can help us with on new home builders. We looked at Crown, but I have read a lot of negative things about them. We are also considering Fortress Builders and Essex Homes. Any help would be appreciated.
Other then Crown I can't give you much input, but I know several folks who bought Crown homes in Lexington and I only have heard negative things about them. All of them have had problems with quality of work, ranging from a wide array of issues, and none of them have been happy with Crown's customer service. They say it is night and day between the Crown that kisses up to you while trying to sell you the house vs the Crown who is unresponsive after the house is sold and you start calling them with issues.
Essex is building homes from $125K to $500K in the greater Lexington area. You will not get a $400K home for $200K so do not expect such from any builder.
Went with in-laws to look at one well known local builder's development. The houses were selling for $150K. They were worth that. They would not have been worth $225K.
Look at value for the dollar.
