If Kroger Marketplace stores are well received in Red Bank and at Killian's Crossing in Richland County, Kroger could launch a Columbia area renewal with additional stores. It could be a springboard for Kroger to add stores across South Carolina through it and Harris Teeter's banners.
Kroger's arrival could cause Publix to follow. I doubt Food Lion #1562 will survive.
I shopped at the new KJ's Market in Lexington, Oak Grove. I was impressed how clean and well stocked it is. The layout is very similar to the Pig that was there before. Their deli does meals all day long including breakfast. I had a take out meat loaf and veggies that was very good. Their overall food selection has a bit of down home food selection to it (think Food Lion and Reid's). Easy to see they are SC (home offices), NC, and GA stores based on their selections.
I will have to try a major grocery run there to decide if they can replace my favorite store which is Publix. That aside, I will do quite a bit of business with them as they are so convenient and their quality is high. Going to try some IGA store brand stuff.

UPDATE
Did a major grocery run and was pleased. Main thing missing is a larger international food selection especially the pasta and the pasta sauce selections. Like not one Vodka Sauce. They do not stock Florida Natural juices which are a favorite of mine.
Had breakfast there and their onion/country sausage was some of the best I ever had.

Good to know. I have had a few family members and friends stop in to grab an item or two based on convenience. All said that it was a very clean store and much nicer than the old pig.
Only thing they had to say that could be negatively is that their prices seemed a bit high. Not too much to keep from shopping there, but would not skip the trip to BI-LO for KJs. I can be at BI-LO in under 5 minutes as well as KJs so its not like either are out of the way. I'm just a fan of fuelperks.
Not against progress or growth at all but I hope the highway planners do a better job with this new addition (store) than what they did for the Aldi's store access. Hopeferry Rd/378 is a a nightmare and the intersection looks like a third grader designed it. Every day I drive through it I have to assume someone got a nice kickback and let it pass because I can't believe any honest highway engineer would have let that intersection pass as it was built. Small town corruption at the nth degree.

That is correct. It closed sometime before 2003.
