Default Midlands Technical College and Camden

My mother was born and raised in Camden. She moved north as a young woman when she met & married my dad, a Yankee. Every summer when I was a child she brought me back to Camden (or the surrounding area) to live until I had to return to school in New England in the fall.

That being said, I feel very much at home in Camden, a wonderful little southern town.

I currently live in Vermont but due to the lack of tolerance I have developed for cold weather I am seriously considering moving to Camden and attending Midlands Technical College to become trained as a radiologic technician.

Anyone here who can give me some insight about the college? The commute to/from Camden? and/or the opportunities in the radiological field in the area?

Thanks!

Thumbs up Move to Camden

Hope this helps a little. I may be a little older than you so Camden is perfect for me. There are always new things happening in Camden and we are developing and growing faster than I could imagine. I'm really proud of all the communities here. I am a graduate from Midlands Tech. airport campus, so I had a bit of a commute each day. There are other campuses in Col. however. If you don't mind the commute to school, then you won't mind commuting to work. The local hospital has a web/employment site you can check for jobs. Finding a job in Camden or Columbia should not be a problem in your field. Think of the commute as "me" time and meditate. It really isn't a bad commute. There is now a public transportation program (RTA) that many people take advantage of because of gas prices. The ride is $1.50 from Camden to Columbia each way. Midland Tech. is a great school and the credits you earn transfer easily to other schools. Don't know when you were in Camden last, but the old Belk's store now houses city offices as well as Central Carolina Technical College, main campus in Sumter. Good Luck !!!

North East Columbia is really booming now. Camden has almost turned into a suburb for NE Columbia. More and more folks from Camden are commuting into Cola, so if you decided to make the drive, you wouldn't be alone. I hear more and more folks are looking into carpool options as gas prices continue to rise. We're pushing 3.50 /gal around most of the city now.

There is only a small hospital in Camden, all of the larger hospitals are in Columbia.
