I am new to the area, and I would like to join a gym. The only chain I've seen so far that I recognize is Gold's gym...which I've tried before and found it too $$$. I live in Columbia, but work in Newberry, so I'm looking for something that is either right in Columbia or up 26 and in close proximity to the highway (so I can just stop on my way home from work). I also want a gym that stays open late. In NY, I went to planet fitness...it was great! $10/month, and only $50 down. Any ideas?

What about the YMCA on Kennerly Rd. in Irmo. It's only a couple of miles off of the exit for Broad River Rd. on I-26 (right above Harbison). There's also the downtown YMCA near Palmetto Baptist Hospital. I used to use both regularly.

You're probably not going to find anything for $10/mo. I like Stronghold on Huger, even though I don't work out there anymore because I'm trying to set up my own gym at home. If you use automatic draft then it was only like $32/mo (which was the cheapest I found) and there is no obligation so you can quit at any time without fear of additional charges (just need to bring something in writing). They have a decent gym, but a lot of climbing walls as well. The owner is a really nice guy.

What part of town do you live in? There is an anyhour fitness on Devine Street in Shandon, which is open 24/7.

Golds was doing a $29 promotion a few weeks ago, but I think it's over.

I too am looking for a rock climbing gym in columbia south carolina! The walls at strong hold are not that good! The walls in greensboro north carolina are a lot better and the gym is bigger! One of the walls in greensboro is set at 60 degree angle and goes for about 30 feet or so! I would love to figure out how to get someone to open a real climbing gym in columbia south carolina! With at least 40,000 square feet of total vertical climbing available! Also with a large bouldering room!

The wall in Greensboro was a 40 foot vertical climbing wall though I would love for someone to open a 60 foot climbing wall gym!
