My husband may have an opportunity to move his job to Columbia. We hope to come down soon to explore the area.
We are in our 30s with no kids and are trying to figure out the best area to live. We are looking to rent probably in an apartment complex but maybe a house. We are looking for something that is quiet but it is hard to tell online what areas are student dominated. Budget is not an issue. My husband would be working downtown but we are open to a commute. We were leaning towards apartments thinking it would be easier to meet people then in a single family home.
Are you looking for a suburban lifestyle? That's what you'll get there. It is a nice area with plenty of shopping and access to Lake Murray. It may be harder to break into a social circle out there since it is more family-oriented.

We live in a suburban lifestyle now and I would assume we would eventually end up in a similar situation.
Does the Vista area cater to more a mid 20s audience? I wonder if we are too old?
Downtown Columbia skews young (20s and 30s), but there are people of all ages hanging out, living, working. Lots of development downtown here these days, it could be a good fit. Check out Forest Acres, too.
Thanks so much for your help. We will check out all areas.
