Hello all,

I am looking at taking a SC Road Test in the coming month. I'm looking at the three locations in O'Neill, Shop Road, and Blythewood? Has anyone taken the test at any of the three locations and would like to provide information on them (the route, wait, etc.). Thanks!!!

I've only heard bad things about shop road. I'd go with o'Neil court although a private company might work also.

Way back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth I took mine at Shop Rd. My main gripe was that they had the parallel parking stalls set up such that there was a manhole cover in one that was on sort of a mound of asphalt. If you weren't careful and gave a little too much gas to get over that hump you'd tap the back marker and that would be an instant fail. After a month of practicing I knew just how much gas to give it and got my restricted license on the second try. My info is 15+ years old but back when I took it the route was:

  • Start on the left/front side of the DMV Building where you'd demonstrate your knowledge of the safety equipment on your car (horn, signals, etc)
  • RIGHT out of the parking lot onto Shop Rd
  • LEFT onto Idlewilde Blvd
  • LEFT onto Key Rd (somewhere along Key Rd you'd be asked to pull to the side and demonstrate how to position your wheels if you were parked uphill/downhill with/without a curb)
  • RIGHT onto Key Rd
  • RIGHT onto Bluff Rd
  • RIGHT onto Idlewilde Blvd
  • RIGHT onto Shop Rd
  • LEFT onto Barlow Rd (somewhere along Barlow Rd you'd be asked to demonstrate backing up and then a 3-point turn)
  • LEFT into the back lot of the DMV (this is where you'd do parallel parking)
  • RIGHT around the DMV building into the front lot where you'd park and find out if you passed/failed
